Memorial Day

I know that I have at least a few fans out there in the armed forces. To them and everyone who’s served, our thanks today.

I specifically want to say thank you to the brave gay and female soldiers who challenge the concept that fighting and courage are the exclusive province of straight men. To put your life at risk while at the same time fighting the prejudices of your colleagues takes more courage than I can imagine. Every day you spend, though, slowly but surely makes it easier for those who follow. And for that, you’re all in my thoughts. Thank you for your bravery and your service to your country and your fellows.
